F500 Challenge Cup, Presented by Hoosier.
The two FCM F500 Challenge Cup races were held in conjunction with the Sports
Car Club of America Finger Lakes Region Fun One Double at Watkins Glen
International. Sixteen entrants, nine Regional and seven National drivers,
enjoyed coolish fall weather. Each race saw fourteen of the sixteen entrants
start. Some drivers missed one or both races
primary due to the Glens Blue
Armco barriers (ouch).
Utilizing the motocross point scoring system, the top three FCM Cup finishers
closed out the week end with Moore leading with 355 points, Tom Shaughnessy
second with 350 points, and Bob Gray third with 295.
With event support from Hoosier Racing Tire, SUNOCO Race Fuels, and RHS
Stainless, Cup winner Moore also received a set of Hoosier tires and a
beautiful embroidered SUNOCO Izod shirt. Each days top five Regionally
Licensed drivers and top five Nationally Licensed drivers received Hoosier
tires, Hoosier jackets, and embroidered SUNOCO Izod Shirts. Saturday and
Sundays Regional and National pole qualifiers each received hand crafted RHS
Stainless Wine Rack Pole Position awards which included wine glasses and a
bottle of Lakewood Vineyards wine.
At the Saturday afternoon F500 Class Social drivers received discount coupons
compliments of Lakewood Vineyards, Watkins Glen. Geoff Gerko, Garfield
Heights Oh., won the drawing for a dinner certificate for two at the Glen
Motor Inns Montage Restaurant. Later Geoff said, The food was great along
with the view and the historical Glen racing pictures hanging on the
restaurant walls.
