Hmm, I've downloaded the following binaries:

2009-08-27-16-03
2009-09-13-19-34
2009-09-14-09-53
2009-09-14-13-57

All the September binaries fail with the SSE3 error. Trying to
bootstrap any of them (with the boot image from factorcode.org) fails
in the same way as reported previously. The August binary works fine,
so I didn't bother trying to bootstrap.

I don't think I'll bother trying to investigate further[1] - it's not
as if I need the latest and greatest image on this PC.

[1] Although if this indicates a bug, I'm happy to run more tests to
help work out what the issue is. Just don't bother fixing it just for
me :-)
