I also liked the block system, but don't believe it is ideal for all subject matter. Others have already mentioned the usefulness of time to "incubate" and integrate material, particularly useful for mathematics and sciences.
I see no reason why "mix & match" couldn't work�some subjects by block system, others by the traditional method, which may have advantages of its own that we have not considered.
