Tom T snipped: Kenneth Hassman writes: > Doesn't this happen naturally as one gets older anyway? ... > Many in this age bracket, meditators or not, seem to > come to this kind of understanding and my understanding > of this is that at some point, maybe mid 50s its a natural shift. - Patrick Gillam I've read this too; specifically, that seniors score higher on tests of self actualization. Remember the old TM charts on self-actualization? The way I interpreted it all was this way: The nature of life is to grow, and TM hastens growth, hence, TMers take less time to grow to a point they'd reach eventually without TM. Bobananda, did I get that right?
Tom T: Bernadette Roberts in her book the The Experience of No Self talks of going in to meet her 80+yr old female neighbor. The neighbor says to Bernadette "You look like hell, what is happening?" Bernadette then tells the 80 yr old her story of losing herself. The 80yr old laughs and tells Bernadette that happens to all seniors as they age and recounts her tale of gradually losing that small self since her mid 60s. Bernadette then realizes that losing self may be a natural evolutionary thing and she is just going through it early. It was a turning point for Bernadette to get her to stop thinking she was actually crazy.
