Sorry, but I don't get to read FFL every day and things move pretty quickly here so I am a little behind the curve on the discussion of puja rooms and statues.
Personally, I like religion and I like Hinduism the most. My best friend is the Chief Priest at the Hindu Temple in Malibu. He's trained me in the vedic rituals over the past 10+ years and I frequently serve as an assistant priest during the temple function and yagyas he performs in private homes. I consider myself to be a Hindu. Most TM-ers don't and that's fine with me. I do what my chosen religion expects me to do and that is to have a puja place in my home and to perform daily pujas. They are quick and simple and actually a lot of fun. As for the "dangers" of owning murtis, they need a little care and attention but you don't have to go nuts over it. I don't push my religious beliefs on my kids or anyone else for that matter. They know they have a choice and I answer questions when they ask them.
