The answers simple: we were never told the story in the first place. One thing I expect from a teacher is for him or her to share their story--not necessarily the details of their personal life, but the important parts of their own spiritual life. Where they learned teachings, what they learned, what they'll share and what they won't; who they learned it from and what that meant to them -- their own experiences of the View, the Path and the Goal. I really think these are normal things to expect. It's only in the spiritual supermarket or where there's something to hide (or both) that we are deprived. When these things are lacking, one will always be left wondering why these things are missing.
