My experience has been the total opposite. All of my difficulty in life has been caused by ignorance. Realization has always been like a weight being lifted, and it has always happened in spite of my efforts. Wrestling with desires that you are not quite ready or willing to give up is hard. Hanging on with all your might is hard. There is absolutely nothing difficult about letting go, but standing at the doorway wracked with indecision is a unique hell.
