All Spititual Developement has to do with, "Letting Go". This is something which sounds easy, but takes practice, because everything we learn, has to do with doing. So, when it comes time to stop doing, stop taking a position, to defend, then we step out of the egoic self, and realize the "higher self". Unbounded pure awareness, at the basis of our consciousness. This is a process, of letting go, of all concepts, theory's, emotions, notions, anything, until you are left with nothing, zero. Empty everything out, Everything. That's the hard part, because we are all used to holding on so hard. That's it.
