Know the buzzwords I guess and the specialties and their journals. 
There was one Skip Alexander was published in--forget the name--I'm 
sure that is still on the web.

HH the Dalai Lama has done close to a dozen conferences with leaders in 
many fields, but notably neuroscientists so that's certainly a 
resource. Several of these are published, all were recorded.

It helps to have a subscription to Medline. I also search recent 
dissertations and theses when there is something I am really interested 
in. These are all done in PDF format nowadays.
