To me this is the difference between east and west. Culturally, easterners have a respect for spiritual practices and those with "wisdom". In the west, what you pay for something, connotes a "value". I once was convinced by an aspiring initiate to teach her for a reduced fee. She didn't take it seriously at all. Only one example, but I've seen this at work in other arenas as well. You can't really be a "professional" teacher in the west doing it for free. Who's gonna pay the bills?
