"aim" is an english spelling that can be expressed as a sound out loud or silently in the mind. I don't see that this sound "means" wisdom, to me these sounds set up a reverberation in the gross mind that cultivates an allignment with a more fundamental characteristic of creation that when forced to fit into the static confines of spoken english comes out something like the word "wisdom". Mantra's themselves do not mean anything, there is a form that they are associated with and when the distinction between the meditator and the mantra disappears then there is only the form. The mantra by itself is meaningless but you can choose to assign it a meaning at the relative level. > If you are going to continue with the party line of > doublespeak, like "Uh. "namaha" in > his advanced technique means "i bow down". > It is not meaningless and that pissed him off. I have always felt that it wouldn't be a bad idea when teaching T.M (I do not teach) to explain that traditionally these mantras have often been translated as meaning such and such but that the assigning of particular words and images to these sounds was unnecessary because their true nature is expressed at a much more fundamental level. This last point is illustrated by the fact that mantras work whether or not their traditional meaning is known. So I don't think that Jeff was lied to as much as he wasn't given all the information available on the subject. Rick Carlstrom Rick- The only thing that you have said that makes any sense at all is the fact that we do not think about the meaning of he mantra when we meditate. Did anybody say that we do think about the mantra when we meditate? I dont think so. All that was said is that the mantras do have meanings. I took the previously noted mantras from the scripture Chandi Path AKA The Durga Saptasati AKA The Devi Mahatmyam. It was reviewed before publication by Vedic scholars and published by Motilal Press(i believe). It is chanted all over the world. My copy is the 6th edition. This particular translation and transliteration is in use in some of the shakti peeths in India. The bija mantra for the Chandi Path is Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundayai Vicce aka the navarna mantra. Here is the meaning of the mantras: Om wisdom, maya, transformation, Chamuda(the Goddess who destroys thought), In the body of knowledge. Now i will not spend any more time trying to present the evidence to you because you cannot grasp the idea that you have been mislead and like most fanatical religious people, you must hold firmly to your beliefs, otherwise the possibility of the death of the ego is too real. And God forebid we allow that asura to be destroyed. The ultimate goal of all spiritual practices is to become thoughtless. That is why we meditate, chant, sing to god, do puja etc. You are stuck in your thoughts and refuse to acknowledge it. Could it be that MMY lied to us? Could it be that he had sex wit h multiple partners, that he is not a lifelong celibate? Could he actually charge high fees to make more money for himself and his family. Could Kaplan be right? Could he really have been told by Guru Dev not to take disciples, not to leave the himalayas? Could he have manipulated the shankaracharya position as discussed previously here on FFlife? Could any of this be true? These are all thoughts that you dare not consider. So until you can think on your own, and stop justifying the lies tha t we have been told, no further intelligent discussion or presentation of the facts has any value. Now i have to go do my program, and i promise you i wont think about the meaning of the mantra. steve __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
