Bingo. The higher the "pedestal of evil" folks place Hitler up on, the less they have to deal with the possibility that he was Just Like Them. I actually see it as the *same* phenomenon as put- ting one's spiritual teachers up on "pedestals of good." The "further away" folks make them, the less they ever have to deal with what these teachers teach. The more they can make these guys "special," the more excuses they'll have to avoid realization, because they're not *as* "special."
