Kirk, I've already posted here that American Idol is an easily acquired taste.
I characterized it as big fish in small ponds, but now that the final twelve have been designated, I'm happy to report that there's at least three or four singers who are world-class. I think this season's talents are much better than any other season's. The one unfortunate aspect of season seven is that one angelic singer, David Archuleta, outshines the others so much so often that he's a shoo-in winner, and the drama of who will prevail is but slight. That said, one of the other singers just might kick it up a notch and make it a decent competition. Some of them have got soul by the ton. Sometimes the song and singer fit so well together that transcendence is obvious. I'm remembering Fantasia's "Summer Time."
