I worshiped in that very tradition last night, sharing
a carafe of sangria with a friend at a local cafe.

As for the Merovingian thang, one should consider the
source when pondering its possible veracity.  It's a 
French legend.  Outside of Notre Dame there is a stone
that is known as "Point Zero."  It was the point from
which all distances in the known universe was measured;
everything in Europe or the universe was XXX units of
measure away from Point Zero.  The Merovingian myth is
IMO the same thing, a quest for self importance, a 
desire to be at the center of the universe.  :-)
