I don't claim to be able to discern the subtle influences of mantras, and of course each individual would have his own reaction/experience/interpretation, but when I switched, I noticed an improvement. These days (a few years later) I transcend clearly in most meditations and feel that I'm making wonderful progress on the spiritual front, although mantra meditation isn't the only influence. I'm more successful than ever business-wise (Never been a business hotshot but I'm doing OK - plenty of clients), no one has died, etc. (allusion to OM in the mantra).
