From the perspective of other methods in the ilk of TM, TM's major problem most likely not the mantra, the type of mantra, etc. but laxity and torpor at the subtle level. I've run into this again and again. It's been mentioned on this list that many in the dome SLEEP. This is a major defect of practice. If not corrected the practice just drains you of energy and meditation does not advance. IMO this is also part of the reason that people rarely transcend more than a few minutes at a time--it's lack of presence and mindfulness. Unfortunately there has not been anything suggested to correct this problem--neither in the checking procedure nor by the techniques inventor.
