I can't say I get this. No one is covering themselves with glory - but the *defamation* that upsets you here is the idea that Barry and Vaj are in it for the money. (Heh, can we all get some?) In Vaj's case that is the least of his *defamation* of MMY and TMO, isn't it? MMY was also in it to get his leg over, and I seem to remember him ranting on about MMY "having blood on his hands". Yes, really. I may have missed it, but no one here is saying the Dalai Lama is just a corrupt official with a fondness for Tibetan yaks or something (and I don't mean he is not a vegetarian). And of course - so what if they do? But there should be an equivalence of mud-slinging tolerance. I'm trying to understand your point. Is the difference that MMY was a public figure and Vaj is not? Is that a difference that makes a difference? Emptybill's antivaj speel was highly amusing I thought. If Vaj wants to promote nonsense from trashy newspapers as "part of the historical record" (again, yes, really), I don't think anyone should get too precious about folks wanting to have a shot at him.
