of course it is always easier to stop a war before it starts. President Bush rashly decided to go to war partly because he can't control his own emotions and partly because a sizable segment of this country can't either; both Bush and his followers masquerading their great fear and impotence with weaponry and a macho stance, "Bring it on!". In an age where communications are instantaneous and face to face meetings around the globe available within a day's time, war is at best an indulgence. And having gotten ourselves deeply into what many see as an intractable mess in Iraq, our esteemed leader now sees it as an acceptable policy to send young people over there to be used as cannon fodder, their lives lost without so much as a sideways glance, because "we are taking the fight to the enemy". What if the child with a fresh bullet in them were yours? As to your question, of course I support the side of peace and prosperity. Those like Bush who support the terrorists obviously draw nothing but disdain from me. I won't go so far as to say Bush is a terrorist, but he has certainly created armies of them, responding to his desire to go to war with another people. Whatever our will as the people of america is, we will make it happen. If we wanted to promote peace and stability in Iraq, it will happen. On the other hand if we want to engage in a bloody war of attrition, trying to kill the enemy more quickly than he kills us, voila! Depends on what karma we choose. Sanctions would've worked in order to bring about whatever we wanted in Iraq (e.g. regime change), if imposed by America vs the UN (just look how we've marginalized Cuba all of these years). But that just wouldn't have given the fearful and bloodthirsty element in this country enough satisfaction. When it starts war and perpetuates it, America, instead of being the leader of the free world, becomes a follower of ignorance and darkness, and spreads that ignorance and darkness around the world, ultimately enslaving itself.
