I think the 1% effect arose out of some quantum physics
argument which few understood but most accepted since
quantum physics is able to prove that a chicken is a 
goose and get away with it because you can't call a 
guy in a wheelchair with a synthesied voice a bullsh***er.

But the pricing structure was never a failure. Certainly, 
if you bring out a new product, it is easier to get the
first 10% to buy than the last 10% to buy. The TMO was
lazy, and failed to support many of the first wave, and
in part acquired a bad name from those who lapsed as a 
result. And when the organisation was pretty weak, 
along comes the Natural Law Party to ensure that the piss
was taken out of the whole movement, lock stock and barrel.
