Many people do use Xanax for a brief period of time with no trouble at all. Other people use it off and on in small doses (like the one prescribed for Shemp) for years with no problem. The problem is that if you take it all the time you will end up needing a higher dose and you will become addicted. So, for generalized anxiety disorder and other chronic problems it is better to find another treatment.
