Well it is also silly to not acknowledge that drug companies are in this for the money and are well aware of the side effects. There are scores of new psychiatric meds in the pipeline that unlike the first generation of SSRI's will target different neurotransmitters and attempt to work in a more holistic manner. The first generation of SSRI's typically only target one particular neurotransmitters underlying mechanism. The new ones will be better. You'd be amazed what's out there. I was just talking to a researcher the other day whose company holds the patent on a prostate cancer vaccine, a rheumatoid arthritis vaccine and a psoriasis vaccine...all are in trials currently I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that some ground water supplies are beginning to be contaminated (esp. in Britain) with SSRI's...
