My entire family had been loyal democrats since before the War of Northern Aggression but Jimmy Carter opened our eyes.  I would have voted for Carter the first time he ran but I don't think I voted, even though it would have been the first election I was eligible to vote in. Geeeez I hope I didn't! Anyway, I do remember voting for  Reagan against Carter and have voted a straight republican ticket since. There is absolutely no way I'm going to waste my vote on some third party ticket and while I may not always agree with the republican party  on everything, I would rather they have power than the democrats.
