The story goes that Novak didn't say she was a covert agent in his column. In fact, that's what *he* says--that he uses the term "operative" loosely, and he didn't know she was covert. However, Josh Marshall did a Nexis search of his columns and discovered that the only times he's used "operative" to refer to someone in the CIA, it's been a clandestine agent.
