Whatever the case with Judith Miller, this needs
to be said again: it isn't a matter of *honor* or
professional standards; it's a matter of professional
*access*.  No matter whom it would bring down, a
reporter isn't going to reveal a source without a
fight because the often more it happens, the less 
ikely sources are to be willing to talk to reporters
on a confidential basis in the future--both possible
malefactors like Rove and good-guy whistleblowers
who want to expose corruption.

That's why I said it would be killing the goose
that laid the golden egg.  If anything, it applies
to liberals *more* than conservatives, *especially*
with a Republican administration.  Where are the
liberal journalists going to get their dirt on
the administration if their sources dry up because
they're afraid of being outed?

You really have it exactly backwards.
