Oopsie, you need to read up on what the public option would have involved: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_health_insurance_option The public option wasn't *replaced* by anything that's in the bill now. It was an additional option, a low-cost plan offered by the government that would have competed with private plans, lowering premiums and increasing benefits. It wouldn't have resulted in fewer people being covered than will be covered by the current bill.
