Speaking as an ADD person, I can tell you that it is impossiblefor 
me  to do for any length of time. If something isn't holding my 
attention spontaneously, all the trying in the world is just going to 
frustrate and likely exhaust whatever resevoirs (sp) of 
neurotransmitters I have in the process. I suspect its the same for 
everyone, but not to such an obvious degree.
