I don't know; I'm trying to figure out what the author meant by the term. 

Parse it: a cult is by definition religious, is it not? But a pseudo-religious 
cult is a cult that 
can't even cut it as a religion.

Perhaps editor Judy can make sense of this phrase. I'm struggling.
