A problem like this came up on the old TM List years ago. 
A participant had ants in his kitchen. He told the ants their 
place was outside, and he would appreciate it if they would 
not come in the house. He vowed to keep his kitchen clean 
so that it would not tempt them. Apparently it worked.

On the other hand, there is this school of thought that 
nothing ever really dies, so unless you feel a kinship with the 
rats and wasps...
