During the past 10 years of hiking in the desert I have seen:

rattlesnakes
desert tortoise
javelinas
scorpions
gopher snakes
many other variety of snakes
tarantulas
Big-horned sheep
..and, believe it or not, in a beautiful natural swimming hole I 
frequent: crawfish (which I thought was limited to Louisiana!)
