Well, it's because he advertizing himself as the 'Original Tea Party Guy'...
And the Tea Party Folks...well, they are regarded by the main stream press as 
'Crazy'...so...
Plus the fact that they wanted the U.S. Govt. to default...
And so he isn't really taken seriously, besides he has no charisma to speak 
of... so...
A president has to be inspiring and have charisma, or else we might as well 
have some kind of machine thingy for President, some book keeper type, who 
wants gold behind every damn dollar or else he will take his toys and go home..
