You've no doubt heard the expression, 'whatever you put your attention on, grows'. Reminds me of people who constantly try to give up smoking or overeating, and are unsuccessful because they can't stop thinking about that which they seek to avoid. Hence, the object of desire just grows larger... Perhaps it is better to first enquire why you want to get rid of the little bastid.
