I heard a mystic one time speak, on a basic and interesting point about communication. He was from Africa, a big guy (kind of looked like an old African King);
Anyway he said, that it really doesn't matter what you say or if you are understood, because no one really understands anyone else, anyway (especially when it comes to one's own personal experience); So, this attitude I have found, frees me to express myself, and not worry so much about what someone might think, or if I have gotten my point across or if I need to defend something; Because, if no one ever really understands anyone else anyway, then who cares; the whole thing becomes a play, right?
