But to me it appears as if he is dealing with lots of complex ideas and perceptions and baggage and assumptions about reality and people and how things work that are preoccupying him. A bit of that simplicity of younger years before the enlightenment and all the convoluted ideas that went with it might be progress, or a even more important, a relief.
