I think their ministries were different, Yogananda was a personal Guru and 
preferred one sincere soul over an auditorium full of curiosity seekers, as he 
said (paraphrased).

Whereas MMY was a Maharishi or (Great Teacher) and had a more marco-cosmic 
mission to restore Vedic culture, IMO.
