It continues to seem to me, as I first suggested
on alt.m.t some time ago--and as Sparaig has
echoed here--that all the current apparent nonsense
on MMY's part is nothing more than an attempt to
establish a solid core of 100 percent loyal True
Believers, however small, to hand over to King Tony
when MMY dies.

My *guess* is that MMY is well aware that the
movement has been in the process of splintering for
quite some time, and he's afraid that this would
make it very difficult for King Tony to take over.

Once he does, however, given that cadre of loyal
True Believers, he'll be able to do anything he
wants with the movement, knowing they'll go along
with it, *including* reaching out to disaffected
TMers, discarding silly restrictions and absurd
projects, and so on. If King Tony wants to take
things in an entirely different direction--one of
Truth and Reconciliation, even--he'll be able to
do that, whereas he might not if he had to fight
factionalism.

I may well be dreaming, but this speculation is
certainly consistent with Hagelin's and Wallace's
current behavior, assuming they know what MMY has
in mind, right down to Hagelin's suggesting the
possibility of change after MMY's death.

It also seems to me that the most sensible thing
for us to do is JUST WAIT. If you can't stay in
the TMO given the current state of affairs, then
leave, but don't make it irrevocable; don't burn
your bridges if you can avoid it. There'll be
plenty of time to do that after MMY dies if
things don't improve under King Tony.

Nobody here, as far as I can tell, has much of an
idea of who King Tony is and what he'd be capable
of on his own. Maybe it's more than some of us
expect. That he isn't able to show it while MMY
is still alive isn't at all surprising.

Or, again, maybe I'm dreaming. But it does appear
to me that a lot of folks are looking for premature
closure. With such an overwhelmingly major change
on the horizon, whose outcome none of us can predict,
why not bide our time and withhold judgment?
