That's actually one of the funniest things I've ever
read on this forum. Thanks...made my day. It's the
stuff of sitcoms. :-)
And actually, similar stuff ("self-deprogramming," at
least) has happened in the world of spirituality. Look
at Krishnamurti. As I understand it, he had been raised
by Blavatsky and the Theosophy cult to believe that he
was essentially the next Messiah, programmed to step
into the role they had trained him for. But he bailed,
and did his own thing.
Look at Chogyam Trungpa, a nice "official" Tibetan lama,
from a recognized and respected lineage. Not even just
a lama, but a tulku, the recognized reincarnation of a
famous past master. And one day he just decided he'd
had enough and stop dressing in tradition robes and
went the way of crazy wisdom. Look at the 14th Dalai
Lama, who refused to take his vows as a monk and went
the way of being a very worldly romantic poet.
But I'll have to admit, "King Tony" being deprogrammed
would be funnier than all of them. He could be a guest
speaker on the 700 Club. :-)
