BINGO! I have been reading Arahattamagga Arahattaphala (The Path to Arahantship [lit: the path and fruit of arahantship]) by Acariya Maha Boowa. It's available on the Internet. He talks about using a mantra to gain what TM'ers call CC. But it goes much beyond that. He outlines the difficulties of this journey, the tools necessary to understand what you are doing and in his own very long life of teaching embodied those fruits of the path.
