In the mid '70s my mother brought home a woman in her mid thirties
for a visit. She was very calm and serene and had a simplistic,
innocent way about her.

As my mother was into things spiritual at the time -- visiting gurus
and offbeat things of a spiritual nature -- when I afterwards asked
her who the lady was I expected her to tell me that she was some
sort of spiritual teacher or guru that she had hooked up with.

It turned out to be a learning impaired mentally challenged adult
that my mother had been paired up with under some sort of "Big
Sister" program.
