Just for starters, taking global warming seriously.

And if he hadn't cut federal funding to Louisiana
for disaster prevention, they wouldn't have had to
abort the project to shore up the levees in New
Orleans, in particular the project to fix one of
the levees that gave way.

I left a post yesterday about the way the Bush
administration has slashed funding for disaster
prevention if you want more specifics.

It would also have been helpful if a third of
Louisiana's National Guard hadn't been tied down
in Iraq.
So global warming caused the Hurricane. Meterologists are saying that Hurricanes come in cycles of about forty years and we are just now coming into that part of the cycle where they will be bigger and more frequent than in the past forty years. As far as the levee goes , it's Louisiana's responsibility to build it's own levees not the federal governments. And National Guard being in Iraq, I still haven't heard anybody but the far left say there aren't enough Louisiana National Guard to assist. Not all national guard troops are suitable for what needs to be done in this situation. Many national guard units are combat units others are engineering and logistics units others are military police etc.
