Share, The stones at the abbey are still a work-in-progress. The monks inherited the stones from the City of San Francisco, which got the stones from Randolph Hearst, a very rich man from California's past, who had the stones dismantled from an abbey in France and shipped to San Francisco, CA. You can read the full history at the abbey's website.
The brewery at Chico, CA is cooperating with the abbey to brew and sell the monks' beer. In return, the brewery will donate the proceeds to reconstruct the stones at the abbey. By the way, there might be a Cistercian Effect over there for peace and success in the entire region. But the monks are too busy making wine to prove that point in scientific terms. :) JR PS They're meditating too as part of their work day, I might add. --- In [email protected], Share Long <sharelong60@...> wrote: > > What beautiful masonry, John, all those archways and it looks as if no mortar > was used at least in some of the photos.
