phalgu means "reddish". It's probably referring to the reddish  
powder, a earthly receptor for this stellar force-- "ginger" which  
has a reddish powder made from it's root. Purva phalguni is also the  
deity Aryaman which is the god of the setting sun, and thus  
"reddish". Uttara Phalguni is "the blind sun" (Bhaga).
