Very interesting that what you are describing also fits perfectly
with what the small self, that which exists as the identification
with the localized self, tells the Universal Self when it is
challenged, or threatened.

Again, a perfect reflection of the small self.

Paradoxically, as this process of feeling special and persecuted
gains momentum, the individual becomes less successful, less happy,
less fulfilled and less powerful. it is the suffering which reflects
the lack of support of the Universal Self, which is applied
compassionately and inexorably to wake up the small self to its
illusion.
