The "acid test" was this morning and the camera performed beautifully for such a toy. The one goof I caught on video was the SUV in front of me stopping as the warning lights started going off at the railroad crossing. He was just right on top of the crossing and should have continued through. Be he stopped instead and then had to back up. The crossings are set up so the bars don't come down immediately so a car can get through. The train was about 15 seconds out so plenty of time.

What didn't work so well was the footage as I returned home as that camera apparently got too hot in the car so the video was blurry. Checking here the camera is back to normal. So I will put it away if it looks like it is going to get heat from direct sunlight while parking.

My "dash cam" arrived today. I ordered a little less than two weeks ago and it was sent from China. It was only $40 including shipping but does 1080p HD. For a cheap gadget it is pretty well thought out to require as little installation as possible. The camera will sit on a suction cup holder in front of my rear view mirror so out of the way. The lens is extra wide angle which means it's little "fish-eye" but what you probably want to take in as much area as possible. It is hooked up to the cigarette lighter so when the car starts it starts the camera and it will record in a loop (currently I have an 8 GB micro SD card in it) until you shut the car off and then it can run for 3 more minutes.

So I too will be recording people or drivers and crazy cyclists I encounter on the public roadways. Good cheap liability insurance in our modern age.

Yes, that sucks. What is worrying me more is this new Google glass contraption which has just started to become available in the UK. The thought of people recording the strangers they encounter in public spaces (and using face-recognition software) is very creepy. Soon the only place you can expect privacy is in your own home - and I understand that the capability exists for a snoop to switch on your laptop camera without your knowledge.

"For all the slick technology, there are grave moral and legal questions
going unanswered in the government’s use of armed drones to kill people
considered terrorist threats. "
