Mostly based on rumors and lies made up by cult critics, just like
all the rumors and lies made up about MMY. Waste of time reading
books like that - old news.
Ever talk to old ISKCON members? I know a few.

Many times. But it's probably not a good thing to be dwelling on crime
books. You are responsible only for your own actions, or not. It
should be noted that Gaudiya Vaishnavism is a monotheistic tradition
which has its roots in the theistic Vedanta traditions. In many ways,
it is a tantric tradition - symbolized by Krishna, male, juxtaposed
with Radha, female - energy polarity.
Yes, I was active in ISKCON in 1971-1972 and I never was abused in any
way.

and dancing on the street. :-D
Some of the folks I know who had a bad time in that organization were
set up with "arranged marriages" that turned out bad. I also know folks
still involved and they are nice folks. I think Prabupad was well
inteneded but just didn't understand Americans and everything went
wrong. I believe that was the conclusion of the reporter who wrote
"Monkey on a Stick."
The characters and events at New Vrindavan do not reflect the movement
as a whole - they were just isolated events. You will find goons and
radical misfits in almost any large organization. Over the years I
have made a detailed study of many deviant spiritual groups including
ISKCON and the DLCS (Divine Love Consciousness Society) located about
a mile from Radiance, the TM Ideal Village near Austin.
