We follow a rather complicated ritual, where the officers have different functions to fulfil, in a similar way as the ordinary individual mind has different functions inside it. The purpose of the open lodge is to function as one Mind. For this to happen it is necessary for the officers to dutifully do their task and to be in tune with the whole. The proper functioning of the parts is essential for the new whole to appear. When there are two or three officers, who are themselves firmly anchored in the infinity or the Center, the open lodge usually starts to function as One Mind. We discuss things, but very rarely any negative disputes appear in that atmosphere. For this to happen people don't need to give up their reason, their own thinking, their worldview etc. Actually the opposite often happens, they feel FREE to express their True Self. And those expressions can touch the listeners from depth. But something has to be given up or transformed, and that is more subtle and unseen. When an apprentice has got initiated, he has to participate in silence to the workings of the Lodge and just tune in. Often these first years of tuning in create strong resistances in people, and many leave with many kinds of external intellectual excuses, even if the resistance comes from the level of deep subtle emotions. Those who endure get tuned in the inner workings of the Lodge. When the Lodge works as one Mind, we don't lose our individuality, but we are fine-tuned with each other and with the bigger whole that appears. And inside that whole every individual has a special function to fulfil, just like the cells inside an organism can have different tasks and specializations, but are finely tuned in to the workings of the bigger whole and co-operate for the welfare of the whole, the organism.
