A review of the pre-9/11 presidential agenda indicates that as a
central
administration theme, W wanted to expand the number of immigrants,
particularly from
Mexico.
W is out on the campaign trail, creating sound bites that obscure his
actual message.
The sound bites call for being tough on illegal aliens. The reality of his
campaign is to
gain support to create more ways to allow illegal aliens to gain temporary
legal status and
remain in the U.S.
More immigrants means lower labor costs and higher profits for
businesses. Just like
another GOP policy, ever-decreasing taxes, the W administration has as a core
value the
expansion of labor forces to lower business costs and increase profits.
Rank and file W supporters are in a state of suspension, trying to
reconcile the
discordant messages they are hearing. On the one hand W actually wants more
illegals in
the country, although his sound bites call for being tough on illegals. The
GOP also wants
more illegals, but on a local basis the GOP is encouraging the arrest of
illegals, prevention
of illegal day-laborer gathering sites, etc.
The rank and file GOP and W TBs are confused, but they don't want to
admit that the
policies are at odds with each other, so while they are mentally busy trying to
sort the
discordant messages so that the two discordant policies make sense somehow,
they are
silent. May they remain confused, and therefore, silent.
