The mythos of a spiritual movement to my mind is a creative fiction designed to
lift one out of one's doldrums, a tool to pry you away from your old life. It's
a passing stage that gives the mind something to ponder. But if the mythos
becomes centre stage it fails to achieve its goal. The other tools, such as
meditation, are supposed to be the thing that gets one to see the mythos is
just that another story that the mind had accepted as reality just as much as
the previous delusion had been accepted. But in fact, the previous story that
haunted one's life is just as much a 'truth' of life as the new mythos. When
you climb to the top of a mountain, once at the top, there is nothing left
ahead, so if you do not plan to commit suicide then and there, if you are going
to do anything else, you have to climb back down again and find something to
do. You just no longer need a story to understand and justify what you do.

I seem to recall a story from some anthropology class I had in college. An
island culture and the islanders before they went out to fish did all these
ceremonial routines, like prayer, etc., but once on the ocean, it was all
physics, just work, with no time for irrelevant mental excursions.

I think that Buck is concerned about his unified field. This is the trouble
with confusing mystical concepts with actual physical properties. And it's made
especially hard when the instigator of a belief system deliberately uses the
same language to equate in your mind the idea that the two things are really
the same.

As we get closer to a full understanding we will see that the two things bear
no relationship to each other. Actually, that should have happened already, the
description of the unified field being lively within itself and creating the
three gunas and in turn the universe doesn't sound much like the standard model
of particle physics as there are rather a lot of steps missing, and it's even
less familiar now we have dark matter and the possible multiverse to contend
with.

I always wondered why - if Marshy knew the unified field and understood
reality - he didn't just tell us what the weight of the Higgs boson was going
to be or some other prediction that was testable. I'd be more convinced then,
but they are traditionally short on details. John Hagelin certainly didn't have
a clue and was disappointed the outcome didn't support any of his ideas.

So Buck and all the other spiritual types should rest assured that we aren't
going to damage the reality of his beliefs because they aren't based on
reality.

And the LHC isn't going to destroy the universe, if high energy collisions
could do that it would have happened a long time ago because they happen all
the time in our atmosphere and on every body in the universe due to all the
cosmic rays flying about.

There is much to learn and probably many more questions to answer before we
get to the bottom of it all, if we ever do. We do well these days to not give
people with vested interests a say in things that don't concern them.

Buck, any oversight really has to be in the hands of scientists, because the
spiritual people simply are blockheads when it comes to science, they don't
know a top quark from a bottom quark, misunderstand the nature of just about
everything except how to meddle in the affairs of people who do not believe
what they believe. Scientists though are just curious. But it is interesting
that the only group qualified to evaluate such dangers are the very ones who
could potentially create it. Were the universe to vanish in a flash, it is not
going to be noticed by us as we will not be here to notice anything, so what's
the worry? Spiritual people don't have the power to destroy the universe, but
they have made quite a graveyard of Earth arguing to the death over subtle
points of the imagination. So who do you trust, people who have a clue about
what is happening, or those that have no idea at all, but think they do?

'Hawking says a Higgs calamity is highly unlikely since a particle accelerator
large enough to create such conditions doesn't exist — in fact, the device
would have to be larger than Earth itself.'

If we could destroy the universe, that would be something, you know, like
being a god.

I could not find any mention of the petition signed by '400 top physicists'
except in the online rag worlddailyreport.com which is a fake news website, and
on Fairfield Life to which it was copied

'World News Daily Report is an American Jewish Zionist newspaper based in Tel
Aviv and dedicated on covering biblical archeology news and other mysteries
around the Globe. Our News Team is composed of award winning christian, muslim
and jewish journalists, retired Mossad agents and veterans of the Israeli Armed
Forces.'

The latest headline from this website: CHILD MOLESTER DIES IN HORRIBLE AGONY
AFTER PEEING ON ELECTRIC FENCE. With information errors like this Buck, your
credibility kind of suffers.

Another skeptic of the project is none other than respected physicist Stephen
Hawking who has recently warned the end of the world could be sparked by the
elusive ‘God particle’

..scientists at the Large Hadron Collider next week are hoping to experiment
with a possible connection with a parallel universe outside of our own.

Pope Francis adds: “My fellow Christians, we are living in desperate times” he
told the crowd.“Science is about to test the limits of God and his creation.
God has created boundaries between the world of the living and the world of the
dead. Are these scientists about to unleash upon us the Gates of Hell?” he
asked his followers, visibly shaken.

Last October, over 400 top physicists signed a petition warning that the Higgs
potential might become unstable at energies above 100bn giga-electron-volts
(GeV) and asking governments to keep experiments under these levels.

Yes, just say “no” to energies above 100bn giga-electron-volts (GeV) for now,
without adequate safeguard for our world in place.

Yes, Scientists should not be allowed to fool around out in the World with
Mother Nature without adequate spiritual oversight.

My first reaction is that the Pope appears to be an ignoramus when it comes to
scientific research. But it doesn't hurt to be concerned about significant
experiments that may have negative consequences. The reference to "opening the
gates of hell" may have been used as hyperbole to catch media attention.

It might surprise some people but anyone who wants to do a major physics
experiment like the LHC, first has to apply for permission to the countries
involved and provide a breakdown of costs, expectations and dangers.

The worst case scenario with the LHC is that it might catch fire and damage
any buildings nearby. This is why it's underground and it has a major fire
safety system that floods the entire thing with foam if anything goes wrong.

As for black holes destroying the Earth, the LHC doesn't create any more
energy than cosmic rays do when they strike the upper atmosphere, it's just
rather difficult to study those due to not knowing where they are going to
happen next so they do it in laboratory conditions underground instead.

The bottom line is, they wouldn't be allowed to do something that might
destroy the Earth.

But maybe the pope is right and there is some level beyond which god doesn't
want us to know.
