U G Krishnamurti had a radical physiological/psychological turnaround (he
called it his "calamity") that seems to have left him asexual and spiritually
transformed. (Oddly, Jiddu Krishnamurti [no relation!] had a not dissimilar
spontaneous experience.)

I've wondered if those who practise either radical techniques like kayakalpa
or more popular systems like hatha yoga are really trying to imitate what
happens to "awakened" masters spontaneously in the hope they too will become
enlightened. They copy the symptoms but can't reach into the deeply buried core
cause.

On the other hand . . . although both Krishnamurti's (U G and Jiddu) denied
that techniques can advance anyone spiritually, both of them had had intensive
training in meditation, yoga and Indian philosophy before their "calamities". I
can't believe that that initial exposure had no effect.

I heard a local vaidya speak about kayakalpa. Doesn';t sound like many people
would want to go through with it.It sounded very unpleasant. very strict
regulated diet, in a hot, humid environment, no air circulating. Your teeth,
hair and nails fall out and grow back. It sounded like your environment had to
replicate a womb and took months to complete. Any interruption could screw
things up. Probably better to just take a completely new body.

Kaya kalpa is basically alternating reduction and tonification therapies. I
visited a kaya kalpa center in Cochin, India. They were heavy into Indian
martial arts. The guys looked in their 40s but maybe they were 400 years old.
:-D

One of their most accomplished students was a woman from Eugene, Oregon.

This looks like the Maharishi Ayurved program like the amrit kalash and
