However, if, as you speculate, the purpose of the debate on the Clinton side was "capture sound bites" and not really debate the issues, well that sounds pretty strange in itself, and I guess, sorta proves my point. Bring out Kaine with a different agenda than to debate, but rather try to make the opponent make statements for fodder in future campaign ads. And again, if that is the case, then I would have preferred to see a more honest debate, than one with that ulterior motive. I'm not saying that the whole debate was to create a 'set up' for a later video clip illustrating the lying nature of the Trump campaign but what I am saying is that the Clinton campaign left no stone unturned with regard to trying to get the most mileage out of the debate by planning to use what they felt would be predictable rebuttals/lies/non-responses from Pence to Kaine's assertions about what drivel Trump had spewed previously. You might as well use the debate as best you can to further your agenda if you're Clinton - or any candidate for that matter. But also, according to your analysis below, the reason Pence DID appear to come out the winner was because he WAS himself, with all the lies and misrepresentations. He evidently is comfortable with that, and that came across. I wonder how many nights Pence lies awake wondering how he got himself hitched with such a monster. If Pence really is the man he thinks himself to be (religious, zealous, decent and conservative) then how can he live with himself? I can't figure out why this qualifies as making him the winner. He couldn't defend Trump except to shake his head and priss his lips or outright lie.
