Thx for the excellent post. Yes, interior experience transcending duality is a
heretical concept, still in Catholocism, officially, but in the long run
there's no way they can stop it. The trend of evolution is in the direction of
nondualism.
The conflict amounts to 1. contemplation, i.e. closing the eyes and
contemplating some dualistic image, say of Jesus or Biblical concepts.; vs. 2.
Meditation such as Quietism or TM in which the mind is allowed to drift on its
own like a feather gently falling to the ground; and by "ground" we mean the
"Ground of Being", not an image of Jesus.
Even though heretical, the Monkis can easily get around the prohibition
through their "Centering" idea and by combining the two approaches: 1. First,
contemplation on Jesus, 2. along with "Centering", (alloing the mind to
experience the true "Center": pure Consciousness.

In addition the Church has a long history of silent contemplation with many
illustrious Saints such as St. John of the Cross. If you read his statements,
it appears he combined BOTH meditation on Jesus and Realization of pure
Consciousness.
So basically, on a practical level it will be impossible to separate the two
imethods. To the Church, "Gnosis" (knowledge of the Self), is heretical since
it's not based on exterior revelation. They are fighting a losing battle:
Nonduality is the wave of the future.
